Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. –I Corinthians 13: 4-7

The Love Chapter is well-known and often graces weddings and wall-hangings. It’s easy to gloss over it. But truly knowing God’s love transforms every relationship we encounter for the better. It is something worth fighting for—to know and share the deep deep love of God.

The first step to transformation is to internalize his love for us:

God is patient with us even when we reject him.

God is patient with us when we mess up.

God is patient with us when we are reluctant to come to him.

God is patient with us when we are reluctant to admit we are wrong.

God is patient with us when we’re angry, not knowing how to handle what we’re going through.

God is patient with us when we are slow to grow.

God is patient with us when we are not patient with other people that he loves.

We can see how patient he is—even as Jesus hung on the cross, he looked down at the very people who were killing him and said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Lk 23:34

The depth of God’s patience is great. Take some time in prayer and receive it fully for yourself. When you know God’s patience for you, you’ll be able to share his patience with others. And in that way, we can change the world.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1 John 4:7

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” –Jesus Christ, Matthew 18:20

Worship is more powerful when it is with others.

“Then God said, “Let us make man (humanity) in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. –Genesis 1:26-28

You were created in the image of God

The things you love to do are not an accident—use them for growth.

“If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day,
if you call the Sabbath a delight and the Lord’s holy day honorable,
and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,
then you will find your joy in the Lord, and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.”

For the mouth of the Lord has spoken. –Isaiah 58: 13, 14

God rested on the seventh day

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. –James 3:7
