Love is not proud or self-seeking

A young girl asked, “If we put others’ needs above ourselves, how will we ever get what we need?”

God’s original design plays out when, in empathy, we seek the good of those around us. Heaven on earth happens when they also seek our good. When you seek the good of those around you, the glorious benefit is—you gain the people in your life. When you invest in your spouse, you gain a spouse. When you invest in a friend, you gain a friend. When you invest in a neighbor, you gain a friend. This thinking is the cure for loneliness, and it is exactly the opposite of what the rest of the world might tell you. But don’t misread this as an encouragement to run yourself into the ground. That doesn’t do anyone any good. Get some rest.

The road back is always the same.

“…the Lord your God is gracious and compassionate. He will not turn his face from you if you return to him.”

2 Chronicles 30:9
